LMU Lions win Montego Division of Jamaica Classic

ST JAMES, Jamaica— Loyola Marymount University ‘Lions’ scored an upset 77-75 overtime win over Wake Forest to win the Montego Bay Division of the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic Men’s NCAA Division One tournament at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Sunday.

Despite leading by 10 points 35-25 after the first half, Loyola Marymount allowed Wake Forest back into the game in the second half and the Atlantic Coast Conference team made the best of it, tying up the scores at 65-all and forcing an extra five minutes of overtime.

Loyola Marymount who had come from behind to beat Georgetown University on Friday, held on to win by two points, thanks to a game high 23 points from Chance Stephens, 20 from Cam Shelton and 11 from Justin Ahrens.

Trey Appleby Matthew Marsh scored 19 points to lead Wake Forest who were losing their first game of the season. Matthew Marsh scored 14 points and Andrew Carr scored 10 points and had eight rebounds.

In the first game of the day, Georgetown rebounded from Friday’s loss to beat LaSalle University by seven points 69-62, after leading by 20 points 41-21 at the half-time break.

Qudus Wahab led Georgetown University with 23 points and Brandon Murray scored 16 points.

Jhamir Brickus scored 14 points for LaSalle while Khalil Brantley and Anwar Gill both scored 13 points.
