Singh cops second MJW Fast Track title

THREE weeks after emerging as the first finalist to earn an automatic placement in the top 10 of the Miss Jamaica World (MJW) pageant, Shanique Singh – Miss Howard Johnson Realty – added another title to her list of accomplishments.

She recently won the Beach Beauty title.

On Friday night, she won her second Fast Track title, winning the Talent competition at the Serengetti at Hope Gardens, St Andrew. She performed a traditional Indian dance.

“It’s truly an honour to have won the Miss Jamaica World 2022 Talent Fast Track. My busted toes are proof of how hard I’ve worked for this,” Singh posted on her Instagram page on Saturday.

“Belly dancing is something that I really enjoy and I think that played a huge role in my performance. It’s also very important to have trustworthy people in your circle who are willing to help you achieve, so a big thanks goes out to @stacy.sn51 for assisting me and critiquing me along the way,” the post continued.

Singh also congratulated her runners-up, Asheka Robinson and Tahje Bennett who finished second and third, respectively.

“Congrats to @ashekarobinson_ @tahje_bennett and a job well done to the other ladies. There aren’t many people who are brave enough to do what we did last night,” she posted.

The 13 finalists participated in the Talent Fast Track competition. According to franchisee Dahlia Harris of Crown of Beauty, the talent on display was diverse.

“Diverse in type of talent and the themes engaged. The ladies have put in the work, and they are prepared to compete all the way until a new queen is crowned,” said Harris.

The contestants displayed their talent through dance, spoken word, dub poetry and singing. The judges for the event included Patrick Earle, dance development specialist at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC). His extensive resume includes the National Dance Theatre Company, tutor at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts and, at one point, the choir director for St Catherine High School for a season of All Together Sing.

Music development specialist with the JCDC, Avery Crooks-Campbell, was also a member of the judges panel, along with Kadeem Wilson, actor, singer, dancer, film star, and performance art tutor.

Miss QORIHC Asheka Robinson did a rendition of Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come, while Miss Artwell Classic Prints Tahje Bennett performed Alexandra Burke’s version of Hallelujah.

Two weekends ago, Tahje Bennett was named winner of the Jamaica Moves Fitness Event. The remaining Fast Track events are the Sway Model Management Top Model and the Devon House Beauty with a Purpose events.

Miss Jamaica World 2022 will be crowned on December 4 at the Courtleigh Auditorium in St Andrew.
