Cops seek breakthrough in delivery man’s murder
The police are still trying to make headway with their investigations into a murder in Faiths Pen, St Ann, almost two weeks ago.
Delivery truck driver, 47-year-old Dane Brown from Seivwright Drive, Kingston 11, was initially believed to have died in a crash, but was found to have been shot dead.
Head of the St Ann Police Division, Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, told Observer Online that no witness has come forward, so investigators are thoroughly examining the clues they have.
SSP Powell said the probe has so far unearthed that Brown stopped to talk to someone he knew when he was attacked and shot in an apparent robbery attempt.
“He drove off but crashed, and when we got to the scene, no one was present,” the senior cop said, adding that despite pleas, no one has come forward with any information.
It was reported that around 5:30 am, police were called to the scene of the crash, where they found Brown slouched over the steering wheel. He was cut from the truck with the assistance of the fire brigade.
During the processing of the scene, what appeared to be a gunshot wound was discovered on the right side of Brown’s chest. He was reportedly transporting food items to the western end of the island, when the crash occurred.
According to investigators, observations made at the scene suggest he crashed into a utility pole after losing control of the motor truck.
Following the crash, several items from the truck were looted. Investigators has since recovered some of the stolen items.
The investigators are urging residents of the community to cooperate with them as they seek to bring closure to the matter.
