KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man was summoned to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday for allegedly punching his neighbour repeatedly in the face and using an iron to physically assault him during an altercation.

The accused, Corie Chung, told Senior Parish Judge, Lori-Ann Cole-Montague, that he was not guilty of the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The allegations are that on October 24, Chung and the complainant had an argument, which resulted in Chung punching the man in his face several times and using an iron to hit him on his hand.

However, denying the allegations, the accused said they have been at odds for “weeks now,” because he supposedly threatened to slit the throat of a mutual female acquaintance.

He said on the day they had the argument, the complainant ran down a lane in their community while informing him that he’s “going for his gun.”

After some time, according to Chung, the man returned with a bag with an item that looked like a weapon and brandished it.

“I did not do anything to him,” Chung said.

Speaking for the first time the complainant said that during the altercation he even broke a finger.

Both parties are to return to court on January 30, 2023, to facilitate the completion of the file, given that the medical report is outstanding.
