Former Westmoreland Central MP Russell Hammond has died
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central and veteran businessman, Russell Hammond, has died.
Hammond, who was ailing for some time, passed away Friday night at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Hammond was the managing director of Hammond’s Pastry Place in Westmoreland.
His death has sent shock waves throughout the parish.
President of the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce, Moses Chybar, told OBSERVER ONLINE that Hammond’s passing is a “big loss” for the business community.
“It is a big loss. Russell was a man for all seasons. He was actively involved in the Chamber and many other different clubs,” Chybar said.
Chybar added that his loss will leave a void.
“His passing is gonna leave a void, I don’t think it can ever be refilled, because I don’t think we will ever have anybody so well-rounded as Russell Hammond,” he argued.
Chybar also lauded Hammond to be unbiased, balanced and mutual despite his political allegiance.
“We just wanna offer our condolences [to the family] and we pray for their strength and comfort from the good Lord. We will be there to support them in any way that we can, and we share in their loss,” he added.
