Reggae Youths stay perfect in Sandals Resorts Major League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Reggae Youths ended the first round of the St James Football Association Sandals Resorts Major League with a perfect win record after beating Lilliput Rovers 1-0 at the UDC Field on Friday.
It was Reggae Youths’s sixth win, which saw them increase the margin in the table to six as they are on 18 points with Granville United who won four-straight games to be on 12 points, followed by Lilliput Rovers and Flanker FC both on 10 points each.
On Thursday Granville United blanked Cambridge FC 2-0 while Flanker FC were 2-1 winners over Heights FC, who lost five straight games.
Meanwhile, Cambridge FC were found guilty of using an ineligible player in two games against Reggae Youths on November 18 and against Lilliput Rovers on November 25, and as a result they lost one point as penalty.
They had lost 2-0 to Reggae Youths and had drawn 1-1 against Lilliput Rovers and, according to the rules of the competition, they were deemed to have lost both games by 3-0 margins.
On Friday, Reggae Youths took their record to six wins, thanks to Thomas Scott’s 76th-minute goal against Lilliput Rovers who went down to their second loss of the season.
On Thursday, Davian Thelwell scored a double for Granville United who were winning a fourth-straight game after losing their first two games by an aggregate of 8-3.
Thelwell got a goal in each half, scoring in the 18th and 55th minutes as Granville have won their last four by an aggregate 12-2.
At the UDC Field, Flanker FC raced to an early 2-0 lead but had to hold on as Heights FC came back at them in the second half.
Danique Clarke scored both goals for Flanker, netting in the fourth and 10th minutes, while Anthony Gooden pulled one back for Heights FC early in the second half, scoring in the 58th minute.
