STETHS win ISSA Rural Area junior football double
CLARENDON, Jamaica – St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) are the kings of ISSA Rural Area Junior football after winning their first Under 14/16 double on Friday at Foga Road High in Denbigh, Clarendon.
STETHS beat Vere Technical 5-4 on penalty kicks in the Under-14 final after they were tied 1-1 in regulation and then beat Glenmuir High 2-0 in the Under-16 final.
STETHS came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in the Under 14 final after Patrick Page gave Vere Technical the lead in the 39 th minute but STETHS responded in the 60 th minute when Kenroy Banton equalised and forced penalty kicks.
In the Under-16 game, Justin McPherson gave STETHS the lead from the penalty spot in the 14th minute before Shemar Stewart added a second two minutes into time added on in the second half.
STETHS will now seek to win the all-island titles when they take on the Urban Area champions next Thursday.
The Urban champions are yet to be completed however as Jamaica College and St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) are to meet in the Urban Area Under-14 final while St George’s College and Campion College will meet in the Under-16 play-offs.
