FOR a third time roots-reggae artiste Droop Lion will be performing on Sting, slated for Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St Ann on December 26.

According to the singer who graced the stage in 2012 and 2013, he’ll be pulling out all the stops to make this gig more memorable than his previous.

“Inna myself I wah mek sure seh I deliver and I do my best at all times. I can’t tell you until I’m in that moment. It will be worthwhile for one to come forward and see the type of performance and delivery. I can’t predict what will happen,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

“Everybody anticipate this show because it’s one of Jamaica’s staple events; it became a part of our culture. Preparing for Sting is always a mental thing because it’s a mixture of crowd. They mostly think it’s ghetto people alone go to Sting but it brings people from all levels… You don’t know what will happen on stage in terms of delivery so preparation is always a very keen one — doesn’t matter if you’re seasoned or up-and-coming artiste. You also have to be mindful and stay far from certain things and don’t get any flu or anything like that. Make sure you getting fit too ’cause Sting is a stage where you have to deliver. You have to be mentally and physically prepared,” he continued.

Jahshii, Skeng, Silk Boss, Jada Kingdom, Lanae, Jahvillani, and Valiant are among the acts scheduled to perform at the event.

Droop Lion (real name Andrew Brown) was born in the parish of St Mary but grew up in Waterhouse, Kingston. He recorded his first single, Whap I, in 1998. He is also the lead singer of veteran roots band The Gladiators. Since joining The Gladiators in 2013 he has toured and performed the hits that made them famous including Hello Carol, Bongo Red, and Roots Natty.

As a solo act he is known for songs including Ganja Baby, Lock Down, You Can’t Hurt Her, and Pray for Them.

Droop Lion said he is still working towards cementing his name in the music industry.

“I don’t think my biggest accomplishment forward yet. I still have that vibrant energy; my creative energy is growing wider and wider everyday. I have attributes that can be spoken about,” the singer said.

First staged in 1984, Sting has been held at Cinema II in New Kingston, the National Stadium in St Andrew, and JamWorld Entertainment Complex in St Catherine. Hip hop heavyweights such as Biggie Smalls, Kris Kross, Busta Rhymes and DMX have all appeared on the show which drew monster crowds in its heyday.

The famous Sting clashes include Super Cat and Ninja Man in 1990; Merciless vs Ninja Man, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man in 2000; and Vybz Kartel vs Ninja Man in 2003.
