THE Christmas edition of the Grass Roots and Blankets series, featuring the 8 band and guest performers, is scheduled for this Sunday, December 18.

The live showcase will take place on the lawns of 14 University Crescent in Mona, St Andrew.

Carol Dexter-Dwyer is the group’s manager.

“This staging will have a new feature in the form of vendors at the event. There will be a variety of items available for sale as well as a wider variety of food and beverage options. The host band, 8, has prepared an exciting set which is celebratory and fitting for this festive season,” Dexter-Dwyer told Jamaica Observer on Monday.

She said patrons should come expecting “good, clean vibes”.

“Young, untapped talent is always on the entertainment menu, world-class quality production by Sparkles Productions, and patrons leaving with a belly full of good food and a family evening well spent,” she said.

This will be the third staging of the event. It was previously held in October and November.

“Apart from the band 8, it’s always a surprise; this is a part of the mystique of the event — it’s the vibe of the event that we use as a pull. One thing’s for sure, patrons are never disappointed. We do have young, exciting talent recently featured in the Caribbean Rhythms Showcase where 20 finalists were presented to record company heads scouting fresh new talent. We will also have a former Digicel Rising Stars winner who will also make an appearance,” said Dexter-Dwyer.

The members of the band 8 are Adrian Bacchus – bass and vocals (band leader), George Campbell – drums and vocals (co-musical director), Jhada Dwyer – guitar and vocals (co-musical director), Moses Estick – keyboards and vocals, Matthew Gillespie – vocals, and Dimetri Wynter – vocals.

The band formed while the members were attending Jamaica College more than six years ago. Their most recent single, Fake News was released in July.
