Harmonique hands down Judgement
Harmonique has been singing professionally since 12. In October, she released her long-awaited debut album Judgement, produced by Alphanso Henclewood.
“The concept of my album entails a compilation of songs that are inspirational to down-hearted people to stay courageous and strong. It teaches us to just stay courageous in downtime,” Harmonique told the Jamaica Observer.
Judgement features the songs Bitter Sweet, Freedom, Watch Over My Soul, Stronger and Broken Wings.
A past student of Camperdown High in east Kingston, Harmonique (real name Monique Smith) is from the Windward Road area of that community.
“What I bring to the table musically is love, unity, happiness, melodious, dominant and powerful vocals. Soulful, meditative, inspirational, spiritual music as well,” she said.
Harmonique said she was destined for a career in music.
“My mother Edna Smith and my father Gifton Smith were members of Kings Chapel adventist church in Kingston. They were always involved in the musical activities in the church. My mother was the choir director, a singer, and a vocal coach. My father played multiple instruments, including the drums, keyboards, bass, and guitar. He’s also a vocal coach and gospel music producer, so I guess you could say I grew up around music,” she said.
