ISAIAH Laing — principal of Supreme Promotions, organisers of Sting — says security will be their number one priority at this year’s staging to deter any incidents like that which occurred at Ghetto Splash on Wednesday morning.

“We are running the stage so strict. Not a lot of people can go on this time like at the previous stagings. We have to be mindful about who will be allowed and we have a serious security team and I know they will do their job,” Laing told the Jamaica Observer.

At Ghetto Splash, held at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium in St Andrew, emerging act Brysco and his entourage decided to walk on stage during Jahshii’s set. A visibly irate Brysco was accompanied off the premises by lawmen, along with his entourage, following his performance.

Another man who had jumped onto the stage during the incident had to be accosted by multiple security personnel and taken off the compound. No charges were laid.

Sting is slated for Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St Ann on Boxing Day.

He further said by Christmas Day, everything will be set.

“We are well on the ground, things have been going smoothly,” he said.

The Sting boss also said there will be surprise international acts, and promises that the sets will be memorable.

“All the clashes will make people laugh all the way back to their house,” said Laing.

Sting’s line-up includes Skeng, Jahshii, Christopher Martin, Etana, Shane O, Dovey Magnum, Kraff, and Jada Kingdom.

First staged in 1984, Sting has been held at Cinema II in New Kingston, the National Stadium in St Andrew, and JamWorld Entertainment Complex in St Catherine. Hip hop heavyweights such as Biggie Smalls, Kris Kross, Busta Rhymes and DMX have all appeared on the show which drew monster crowds in its heyday.

The famous Sting clashes include Super Cat and Ninja Man in 1990; Merciless vs Ninja Man, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man in 2000; and Vybz Kartel vs Ninja Man in 2003.
