MISS Universe Jamaica 2022 Toshami Calvin says she is taking Jamaican hospitality to the grand coronation of Miss Universe. The 71st edition of the pageant is scheduled for January 14 at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in Louisiana.

Calvin departed the island on Tuesday to compete with 84 other delegates.

“I am feeling ready and I think that I really have to go and implement all of the training I’ve had over the last three months and to just give it my all and do my best. Once I do my best, there’s nothing else and what’s for you, will be for you,” Calvin, 26, told the Jamaica Observer on Monday at a ‘Bon Voyage’ and unveiling of her signature fragrance event held at the Prince D’Bruce Fragrance store in Central Avenue, St Andrew.

“I’m taking a little bit of Jamaica with me to share with the other contestants. I have some gizzada and some busta sweets. I also have several pieces among my wardrobe from Jamaican designers as well as my fragrance,” said Calvin.

She is already a friend of Miss Belize Ashley Lightburn.

“Miss Belize and I have been in touch with each other, and I am looking forward to forging lasting relationships with the other contestants,” Calvin shared.

Calvin was crowned Miss Universe Jamaica on September 2 inside the ballroom of the AC Kingston hotel in St Andrew.

“The reign has been going amazing. It has had its ups and downs, twists and turns, but in the end, I’ll do it all over again. I do have a voice for the people, while being able to touch lives and make a difference,” she said.

She spoke about the training process in preparation for the Miss Universe pageant.

“I think that the highlight of the training process was just all of the effort that everyone was putting into my training. It really made me feel seen and appreciated and it makes me want to make everyone proud, because I’ve seen the sleepless nights of getting my wardrobe prepared and all the effort that everyone is putting, and putting personal things aside just to help me on my journey,” she said.

Prince D’Bruce Fragrance helped the beauty queen in developing her signature fragrance called Toshami.

“The fragrance is sweet and delicate. Mr Bruce did a good job of guiding me through the process,” said Calvin.

Edwin Bruce, owner of the store, explained why he decided to get involved in the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant.

“It’s all about empowerment. I believe very much that the relationship, the marriage between perfumery and beauty, is something way before I got into it. And when I saw her, and the confidence that she exudes, I knew right away that I had to come on board to be a part of her destiny. With that in mind, I came on board in full force.

Bruce said Calvin was involved in creating the fragrance.

“The blending process takes about an hour because there is no rush to it. The aim was for her to select ‘notes’ that she loves. She was very involved in the process,” he said.
