Foster stars with treble at Caymanas Park
Leading rider Tevin Foster continues to star the early stages of the racing calendar as he extended his rich vein of form with a dazzling three-timer, including Phillip Feanny’s I’ve Got Magic in the feature three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance contest for the St Catherine Cup at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Foster, who secured four wins across the last two racecards, again came good for a third week on the trot and polished off another tidy performance with an efffortless post-to-post win aboard the American-bred horse over six furlongs (1,200m) to take his tally to seven wins.
Sent off as the overwhelming 4-5 favourite, I’ve Got Magic, who enjoyed fairly good form last year, including a few surprising performances to upstage more fancied rivals, used his versatility to good advantage to tackle and dismiss the speedsters Madelyn’s Sunshine (Robert Halledeen) and God of Love (Shane Richardson) on the headline, and from there it became a mere formality.
Try as they did, Duke (Dane Dawkins) and God of Love couldn’t get closer than within three lengths of the Lakeland Farms-owned five-year-old (Fast Ann-Lil Miss Richie), who stopped the clock in a decent 1:12.3 easing down at the end. The splits were 22.3 and 46.1 seconds.
I’ve Got Magic completed a quick double for both Feanny and Lakeland Farms after Power, piloted by Reyan Lewis, won the seventh event over a mile (1,600m).
Foster’s other winners were aboard Blood Song in the second event and Chandra’s Law in the sixth, both for title-chasing trainer Anthony Nunes, who was saddling a double for a third-consecutive week.
Racing continues with another nine-race programme today. Post time is noon.
