Dangerous mix for Freemynz

Dangerous mix for Freemynz

SIX months after the release of their song Dangerous, Freemynz decided to put a fresh spin to the dance track with a special guest.

The remix, featuring D’Angel, was released on January 6. Freemynz (Shango Trex and Catapila) co-produced it with Andre “GC” Fennell, who co-produced the original with Steven “Lenky” Marsden.

“The difference is the mood, the feel, and the collaboration with D’Angel. She has certainly enhanced the remix we had in mind. The reason [for the remix] is because we were hearing additional production on the original track and felt like we should just prepare for a remix once the original was released,” Shango Trex told the Jamaica Observer.

Dangerous was released by the veteran duo last June. The dance number showcased the touches of Los Angeles-based Fennell, whose credits include songs by Shaggy and Enrique Iglesias.

Marsden, a keyboardist and member of Sly and Robbie’s Taxi Gang, hit it big as a producer in 20o2 with the Diwali rhythm which drove songs like Sean Paul’s Get Busy.

Shango Trex says he and Catapila wanted extra pep for the Dangerous remix.

“We were definitely looking for that standout, make-a-difference feel on this. So, together we came up with the idea of giving it a mixture of our Jamaican modern dancehall with an Afrobeats pop style…keeping it on the global ear so to speak,” he explained.

Freemynz officially formed in 2013, although Shango Trex (real name Dennis Llewellyn) and Catapila (real name David Nevin) have known each other for 30 years.

Shango Trex is from Kingston while Catapila hails from St Thomas.

They were members of different bands for many years in Japan before first recording together in 2011. As Freemynz their first song was That Rush, followed by Time to Shine.
