Is there any hope for Jamaica?
Dear Editor,
We have not yet completed the first month of the new year, but all the “best wishes for a happy new year” seem to be straw in the wind.
The harsh realities of the old year linger and we seem hell-bent on setting new records.
The news of the day tends to confirm that we are a very sick society.
While murders and tragic accidents topped the headlines in 2022, the new year seems obsessed
with figures of a different type.
Illicit drugs captured recently have been valued in billions of dollars, while the financial sector now boasts fraudulent transactions in billions as well, and this is happening at several institutions.
There does not seem to be anything called petty crime anymore.
Is there any hope for the future?
