Be on the alert, says Vyzadon
LIFE in Jamaica’s so-called garrison communities is tough, and is known to get tougher once a person’s fortunes take a turn for the better. In Dem Will Kill You deejay Vyzadon gives a warning about lurking haters.
A collaboration with singer Wai Fuzion, the song was released January 20 and is produced by Ireland Records.
Dem Will Kill You is accompanied by a graphic video depicting a victim being attacked as he enters his home at night. Vyzadon says the idea was to make a statement with song and visual.
“We wanted to show the realness to the audience of what can happen to individuals who are well off in life —and even those who are not because this can happen to anyone. We wanted to shoot the video so that every and anyone can watch it and JV Cinematic 876 [film company] brought that out in the concept and made it work,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Wai Fuzion, whose songs include Hey Sugar and Mamma, was brought in to complement Vyzadon’s hardcore delivery. Dem Will Kill You, Vyzadon noted, is “based on reality and things I see happening around me directly and indirectly”.
Dem Will Kill You is the follow-up to Switch Up, a song he did for producers Talk of The Town Music and Bad Hasai Muzyk.
Born Prince Shand, Vyzadon was raised in Trench Town, considered one of the original garrison communities in Jamaica. Sociologists coined the term for Trench Town and other areas such as neighbouring Hannah Town and Tivoli Gardens because of their fanatic loyalty to the People’s National Party and Jamaica Labour Party.
Vyzadon, who began recording music five years ago, is best known for the songs Trench Town and Champion. The latter is also the title of his EP, which was released last year.
