Three Port Antonio High boys charged after altercation involving knives

PORTLAND, Jamaica – Three male students of the Port Antonio High School in Portland have been charged with possession of offensive weapons after a fight at the school on Wednesday.

Speaking with OBSERVER ONLINE, the school’s principal Basil Graham confirmed that “two students had an altercation and the two boys had knives.

“There were two others and I don’t know if they had brought it as a part of protecting themselves … but they presented these weapons during the altercation… between the two students,” he added.

Graham said the altercation lasted “for under two minutes” and left those involved with “minor injuries”.

He said indications are that an “ongoing issue” between the students led to the altercation.

“It started the day before with one student hitting the other with a door where the other student was standing behind the door and was not seen by the one pushing the door. It was an unpleasant conversation between them subsequent to the following days’ activity,” Graham said.

“We didn’t have any stabbing, no six students were arrested; in fact the police left here with three of our students who we could say owned the weapons… we are still investigating to find out who else if anyone else was involved,” he continued, adding that, “I am trying to generate a report to our superiors, our board and the general public who is interested.”

The principal said the school “is in normal session” and was not disrupted as the incident occurred during break time.

A source from the Port Antonio police confirmed the arrest of three students, adding that they were charged for possession of offensive weapons and should face the court in March.
