THE Road Traffic Act which took effect on Tuesday February 1, 2023, has sharply increased the penalties for several offences. Here are some more of the penalties and the fines:

28) Carrying dangerous goods without the transport emergency cards and manifest, or not producing emergency cards and manifests when it is requested by a member of the police force, or other authorised persons, will attract a fine of $175,000

29) A motorist who drives an unregistered vehicle could face a fine of $10,000.

30) A motorist who drives a vehicle which is not licensed could face a fine of $10,000.

31) Transporting dangerous goods while carrying passengers who are unqualified attracts a fine of $25,000.

32) A motorists who refuses to allow his/her vehicle to be weighed or tested will face a fine of $20,000.

33) Pouring petrol with the engine of the motor vehicle running or with a naked light carries a fine of $4,000.

34) Passing or overtaking a vehicle stopped at a pedestrian crossing attracts a fine of $10,000.

35) Failing to stop or observe the provisions of a pedestrian crossing attracts a fine of $10,000.

36) Operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence or permit will attract a fine of $4,000.

37) Operating a motor vehicle without a valid certificate of fitness attracts a fine of $15,000.

38) Operating a motor vehicle that requires a special permit without obtaining that special permit $50,000.

39) Motorists ticketed for obstructing traffic will face a fine of $5,000.

40) If the registration plate on the vehicle is obscured the driver can face a fine of $5,000.
