CARL Melody was going through “a little thing” in his life recently when he got a vision from the Creator while he slept. That celestial visit prompted him to write and record Pray For Me.

The song, which he also produced, is scheduled for release soon. It speaks to the wonders of faith once one’s belief is strong.

“Faith can do a lot. Faith mek yuh move mountains, but yuh have to have patience,” said Carl Melody who lives in Edmonton, North London.

Pray For Me hears him returning to his gospel roots after covering I’m in The Mood For Love, a song made popular in Jamaica by Pat Kelly. It precedes Born to Sing, his second album which is also due for imminent release.

Carl Melody (real name Carl Simpson) describes the upcoming set as roots gospel as it blends the roots-reggae and inspirational sounds he grew up listening to in Jamaica. Born in Kingston, he was raised in St Ann and counts Beres Hammond, Sanchez, and Garnet Silk among his biggest influences.

Girl If You Love Me, his first song, was recorded in 1998 when he was known as Belly. One of his follow-up songs, A Just Love (a cover of Michael Jackson’s Heal The World), was done with deejay Baptist.

Today I Rise, his sole album, was released in 2008 and marked the last time he went by the Belly moniker.

For the past 22 years Carl Melody has lived in the United Kingdom during which he has recorded a mix of gospel and secular songs. To him, Pray For Me is proof that divine intervention exists.

“Di Father came to me in that vision an’ seh, ‘I’ll pray for you.’ It was so natural; it was real,” he said.
