Jonielle Smith set to feature at Western Relays
WORLD Championships relay gold medallist Jonielle Smith has been entered in an invitational women’s 60m race at today’s 44th staging of the Milo Western Relays to be held at G C Foster College of Physical Education and Sport in Angels, St Catherine, starting at 10:00 am.
Smith, who was also a finalist in the women’s 100m at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, will face off against Kasheika Cameron, Krystal Sloley and India’s Srabani Nanda, all of the MVP Track and Field Club.
The men’s race will see two heats and is expected to be closely contested, with Michael Campbell of MVP, Oshane Bailey of SprinTec, Kadrian Goldson and Jordan James of G C Foster, and St Vincent’s McKish Compton.
Ray Harvey, meet director for the Milo Western Relays, told the Jamaica Observer they were approached to add the 60m race and felt obligated to include the event.
“Our objective is always to deliver a product that the coaches and the athletes are happy with, and when we got the request we looked at our schedule and saw where we could fit it in and not disrupt the smooth flow of the meet,” Harvey explained.
