NYU prof screens Nanny documentary
In celebration of Women’s History Month and its theme Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories, New York University (NYU) Professor Leo Douglas will host the screening and panel discussion for his documentary Reimagining Queen Nanny of the Maroons on March 23.
Co-sponsored by the Institute of Jamaica, the free event will unfold via Zoom at 12:30 pm.
An accompaniment of the December-launched art exhibition, the film celebrates the self-determination, eco-spirituality and Afro-indigenous retentions of the formerly enslaved people of Jamaica and the Diaspora.
Adding further context to the production’s themes will be panellists and educators across liberal studies, cultural history and biodiversity, namely Professor Jacqueline Bishop, Dr Marcia Douglas, Dr Tao Leigh Goffe, and Dr Thera Edwards.
Other co-sponsors of the event include the Jamaica Conservation and Development Trust, Image by Ultra, the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at NYU, the Liberal Studies’ CSI (Cultural and Social Identities), SHE (Sustainability, Health, and the Environment), and science concentrations.
