Goalie Blake disappointed he’ll miss Boyz vs Mexico

National senior team football captain and goalkeeper Andre Blake is set to miss the Reggae Boyz Nations League match away to Concacaf giants Mexico at the Azteca Stadium on March 26 due to injury.

The 32-year-old Blake picked up a non-contact injury during Philadelphia’s 1-0 victory over Chicago Fire last Saturday, but his prognosis is positive and he could return soon even though he could not offer a date for his return to action for club and country.

“As it relates to timeline, I know I am out for two weeks for sure and after that it is going to be a day-by-day situation, then I will see how I feel and then go from there,” said the highly regarded goalie.

Blake, who has 64 caps for the Reggae Boyz, told the Jamaica Observer that he is very disappointed that he will be missing the game against the mighty Mexicans.

BLAKE…I am definitely super-frustrated to be ruled out for the Mexico game (Photos: Observer file)

“I am definitely super-frustrated to be ruled out for the Mexico game; it was a game that I was looking forward to.

“I think we have a really good chance to winning that game and moving forward to the semi-finals of the Nations League [and] I was really looking forward to that so it is just frustrating that I won’t be a part of that to help the Boyz get the job done,” he said.

Blake added that the Reggae Boyz have a great chance of beating the Mexicans in Mexico and therefore he will be offering his support to the team in whatever way he can.

“I think we still have enough to get it done [beat the Mexicans], and I wish them all the best and I will do whatever I can from where I am to help them in whatever way,” he said.

Meanwhile, Blake welcomes is nomination for Concacaf Player of the Year.

“Definitely a great feeling to be one of the nominees for Concacaf Player of the Year and it is an amazing feeling to see that all the hard work that I have put in over the years has not gone unnoticed, and I am very happy for that.

“Hopefully, I can go all the way and get some votes and go on to be the winner. Again, I am very happy and very excited and I am just looking to see now if I can win,” Blake said.
