Bags by SMR

Plant mom, artisan and handbag designer Sabrina M Reynolds is showing us exactly how to mix fashion with artistry through her handbag line, SMR Leather Bags.

Reynolds, who has been designing bags for over seven years and uses nothing but genuine leather, told Tuesday Style Fashion (TSF) that she believed it was time to bring something special and of quality to the market. “I was initially inspired to design bags because I love leather and once saw a bag that I could not afford. I attempted to replicate it with absolutely no knowledge of how to! After some online research I made a bag that received favourable reviews. I’d get a tap on the shoulder now and then with compliments about the bag and where I got it from. The feedback elicited a big grin every time on my face, it made me so proud of myself… I started to make a few more. Again the response to the unique shapes and natural look of each piece was favourable,” she shared.

“I am known for only making genuine leather bags,” she added. “The leather inspires me. First comes the creative process for each design. I do not sketch, I just let it flow from my head onto the material and then to sewing. Each bag is unique. I pride myself in making each bag special. No stencils or copies are made. Each bag is one-of-a-kind.”

Reynolds also shared that she has created a welcoming space for her clients by conceptualising a studio that aligns with the brand’s rustic aesthetic. “I saw a need to build this leather bag shop so that my customers would have a more comfortable shopping experience. Before [creating this space] my bags were displayed in my craft shop/plant nursery]. I didn’t think the space felt special enough for my customers. I built this using a mix of both scrap and new materials to cut costs, whilst contributing to sustainability. It is set up to feel rustic but cosy.

Reynolds describes her typical client as professional with a fun side, “fashionistas, ladies who enjoy wearing unique accessories or the gent who likes to carry a bag that turns heads. My bags are fun, unique and edgy and are preferred by confident people”.

TSF shows off a few of the unique creations from SMR Leather Bags.
