Dancehall artiste Jay-A is basking in the success of the hit single Pain on which he collaborated with Mavado and Dexta Daps.

Pain, released three weeks ago, has to date racked up more than 1.4 million views on YouTube and ranked at number one on Jamaica’s YouTube Trending chart for multiple days.

The Florida-based deejay, who once resided in Montego Bay and Vineyard Town, says he isn’t surprised at the song’s success.

“No, I’m not surprised at what has been happening with the song. From day one, we all knew that it was a hit song,” Jay-A said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday.

He added that, since the song became popular, his fortunes have changed.

“Well, a lot more people know me worldwide, and I think that having a hit song has made me more focused as an individual,” said Jay-A.

Pain was produced by Sponge Music. The deejay has new music on the way to keep the momentum flowing.

“I have a few bangers coming including other major collaborations as well as a solo release. Me and Sponge are currently working on a new video, but because we can’t drop the standard below a song like Pain we are taking the time to make sure the fans are not disappointed,” he said.

According to Jay-A, Pain’s relatability has helped in its success.

“The song is very relatable in many ways. For instance, [many] of the people in our country and across the world are poor and have faced struggles in life. The song has a lot of soul and feelings about real life experiences and a lot of people reflect on life by listening to the song,” said Jay-A.
