#Champs2023: St Jago’s Martin shatters Class 1 Girls’ discus throw record
KINGSTON, Jamaica – St Jago High’s Abigail Martin set a new meeting record of 55.19m in the preliminary round of the Class 1 Girls discus throw at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Championships at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
Martin’s record mark came in the first round.
She shattered a new meeting record, which was set minutes earlier by Holmwood Technical’s Cedricka Williams, who recorded a throw of 53.22m, also in the first round.
Williams broke the initial record of 53.04m, which was set by Edwin Allen’s Fiona Richards in 2017.
The top 12 finalists will contest for the gold medal in the Class 1 Girls’ discus throw on Wednesday at 6:56 pm.
