‘Spirited’ Waterhouse rally to beat Faulkland
CATHERINE HALL, St James — Former champions Waterhouse FC came from behind twice to beat relegation-threatened Faulkland FC 3-2 in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) return-round game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Monday.
The win took Waterhouse to 34 points and back into sixth place and back into the play-off picture with five games to go before the end of the regular season.
Faulkland FC are facing relegation and are in 13th place, second from last, on 10 points.
Tevin Thompson and Jelani Nicholson gave Faulkland FC leads, but Duvaughn Dunkley and Damion Binns scored to bring Waterhouse back level before Shaquiel Bradford scored the winner in the 55th minute.
Damion Gordon, the Waterhouse FC assistant coach, said they were happy with the win.
“It was a spirited performance, but we made it a little difficult for ourselves because of the errors we made. I mean, it’s football, we made amends, especially in the last half [and] made some changes and that paid dividends,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
He said additionally the win was big for them, and seen as a “confidence booster for us moving ahead as a team”. “We’re back in the top six, I think, so I mean in all fairness it’s a good boost for us.”
Faulkland FC Coach Gregory Palmer was understandably not happy with his defence.
“The defensive unit didn’t give us justice…because the mid-line and the forward line connected, we got the first goal, defensive unit was slow again and led to a goal.
“Then the second half we told them don’t give away any free kicks, stay on your feet, then we saw a lay down tackle [and we] gave away a penalty, I mean that is a schoolboy football thing,” he lamented.
