KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaican teams won three of the four sprint relays on Sunday’s second day of the 50th CARIFTA Games that are being held at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.

Jamaica fell just short of repeating the clean sweep from last year, when a faulty exchange between the second and third leg runners saw the Bahamas team take the gold medal ahead of Jamaica.

Two brilliant legs, first from 100m champion Alana Reid on the second leg of the Girls’ Under -20 and Deandre Daley on the anchor leg of the Boys’ Under -20 made the difference and led to gold medals.

Jamaica trailed after the first leg of the Girls’ Under- 20 before Reid stormed down the back stretch, handing over first as the team clocked a fast 44.01 seconds.

A strong third leg from the Bahamas saw the ‘home’ team get the baton first but Daley, who was prevented from defending his Under -20 100m title after he was disqualified in the semi-finals, blew past Carlos Brown on the anchor leg as the team won in 39.68 seconds.

The Under- 17 girls also won with 45.24 seconds.

Jamaica finished fourth in the first ever Mixed 4x400m relay behind the Bahamas, Grenada and Guyana.
