Strictly 2K delivers a ton
Hundreds of patrons sang, swayed, and danced to some of the best R&B and dancehall hits of the 2000s at the highly anticipated Strictly 2k Throwback Music Festival during the Easter holidays as a part of the Vacae Weekend party series.
The drink-inclusive event at the Grizzly’s Plantation Cove venue featured some of the best DJs in Jamaica, who descended on the space for the jersey-themed affair.
Attendees on Saturday were not disappointed with the festivities and musical stylings of popular disc jocks such as the Illusion Group, ZJ Rush, Coppershot, and ZJ Chrome.
Headliner Munga Honourable kept the crowd in non-stop dancing mode and high-energy vibes. As one of dancehall’s dominant forces in the early 2000s, he expertly showcased his discography, performing some of his biggest hits including Nah Mad, Take My Place, Earthquake, and Wine Pon It.
The Bad from Mi Born hitmaker shared his appreciation for being at the event.
“Strictly 2K is a staple in preserving the music and for keeping that early 2000s energy alive. The fact that I was chosen to be the headliner, and that the 2000s are still recognised and acknowledged as an important era in dancehall, makes it even more phenomenal,” said Munga.
In comparison to last year, the 2023 staging of Strictly 2K was even bigger and better. Speaking to the event’s success, Red Stripe Flavours Assistant Brand Manager Cavell Robinson said the brand worked with organisers to ensure production quality and the best talent– elements that have become trademarks of this throwback music festival.
“Strictly 2k captures the essence of that dynamic era and, coupled with the excitement of Vacae Weekend, it was nothing short of remarkable. The creativity and vibe match Red Stripe Flavours very well. So, for us, this staging of Strictly 2k was one for the history books, and we were happy to be in the mix creating an immersive brand experience for our consumers,” Robinson asserted.
As partners for Vacae Weekend 2023, the 7-event party series over four days, the festivities continue with Ova Suh and The Estate.
