KINGSTON, Jamaica — Cavalier FC moved into the lead in the points tables of the Jamaica Premier League after edging Humble Lion 1-0 in their return round game played on Monday night at Jamaica College.

Collin Anderson’s 27th-minute goal was enough for Cavalier to beat Humble Lion for the second time this season. Cavalier FC is now on 43 points, the same as Arnett Gardens but with a better goal difference. The Kingston-based club, which has a handful of games to go before the start of the playoffs, is first on the leaderboard.

Mt Pleasant and defending champions Harbour View are tied on 39 points, three more than fifth-place Humble Lion who ended a three games unbeaten run while Portmore United occupy the last play-off spot with 35 points.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Vere United scored a 4–0 win over Chapleton Maroons, the most goals they have scored in one game this season. Vere United ended an eight-game winless run, scoring three times in a 3-3 draw with Montego Bay United. Vere hadn’t managed to score more than a single goal in any game all season and the win moved them further away from the relegation zone. They moved up to 19 points and were in 11th place on goal difference. They are now one place higher than Tivoli Gardens who slipped to 12th.

Vere United scored three times in a 15-minute span in the first half to take the game away from Chapleton. Orlando Lawrence got the first goal in the 12th minute before Shaquille Notice made it 2-0 in the 19th minute. Jason Dyer added a third in the 28th minute.

Romario Bryan got the fourth goal in the 53rd minute.
