Promoters of the Sandz Caribbean Music Festival are aiming to grow the event into one of the biggest one-day festivals in the region over the next 5-10 years.

And, according to promoter of the Vacae Weekend series of parties, Jermaule ‘Nino’ Adair, the high turnout at Sandz this year is a good indication that they’re on track to realising that goal.

Held on April 9 at Plantation Cove, Ocho Rios, the event was undoubtedly one of the best parties of Vacae Weekend 2023, drawing thousands of people from far and wide to see American rapper Rick Ross live on stage.

“Once again we had record numbers in turnout. Rick Ross came out and the people just showed him love. We’re proud of the growth over the years. In the medium term we’re looking to stage Sandz in other Caribbean islands as well,” said Adair.

Sandz 2023 featured a series of energetic sets from DJs Bishop Escobar, JR Chromatic, Creep Chromatic, XFactor, and Deva Kidd.

Then Rick Ross took the stage, belting some of his biggest hits like The Boss, Hustlin, Stay Schemin, and All I Do is Win to the delight of patrons. In addition to the great vibe and delicious cocktails, the party experience was made complete with fireworks.

Adair explained that the promoters had a wonderful time working with Rick Ross and his team.

“We booked him already for the Florida staging and he loved the energy. He said we have a good thing going and encouraged us to continue. He also loves the Jamaican culture; he loves our accent. While here he went rafting and to several food spots, and he extended his stay in the country. Our supporters can definitely expect more international artistes for Vacae Weekend moving forward,” he said.

Looking towards the future, Adair said the Sandz and Vacae Weekend teams can now work on making the series of events even more successful in years to come here in Jamaica and beyond.
