Brinks, Blue Vinyl to battle for Temperence Oaks Trophy
BRINKS, after an encouraging second-place finish behind Madelyn’s Sunshine on April 10 on his seasonal debut, should be ripe and ready to lead home rivals in the $1.14-million Temperence Oaks Trophy feature race on today’s nine-race card at Caymanas Park.
Trained by Ian Parsard, Brinks, who was coming off a four-month break, came from behind and chased Madelyn’s Sunshine to the winning post, getting beaten by 3¾ lengths in a quick 1:05.3 for five and a half furlongs (1,300m). With the run under his belt and a more relaxed pace expected, the four-year-old bay gelding can get off the mark in only his second outing for the year.
Bred by Bern Identity out of the Pine Bluff mare Indian Bluff, Brinks will again have the services of champion jockey Dane Dawkins in the saddle, who will ride at a top weight of 57.0kgs (126lb).
The Temperence Oaks Trophy, a Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward (non-winners of an Overnight Allowance race lifetime) going six and a half furlongs (1,300m), is positioned as the eighth event on the card with a post time of 4:30 pm. First race is at 12:15 pm.
Brinks, however, is expected to get some competition from the likes of Ring Charmer, Big Big Daddy, Blue Vinyl, and Jason DaCosta’s pair of Super Duper and Outbidder.
Ring Charmer, who comes from the stables of Patrick Lynch, ran well last time out on March 12 when finishing second by a half-length to Press Conference over the straight (1,000m) course. Ring Charmer, based on that effort, could run well here once again. Note: The figure 8 is off.
Gary Subratie’s Big Big Daddy is a very consistent runner but seems to be finding it very hard to locate the winners’ enclosure at this level. Big Big Daddy finished third by 6½ lengths behind Money Monster and stablemate Crimson in the King’s Plate over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m) recently, suggesting that he is in good shape. Big Big Daddy should once again go home earning money here.
Ring Charmer’s stablemate Blue Vinyl makes his seasonal debut here. Blue Vinyl last raced on December 17, 2022, finishing fourth by 6¼ lengths behind Prince Marshall over a mile. Based on his class and talent Blue Vinyl can return with a bang.
Super Duper would prefer it a little shorter but she is expected to do her running from the front, and whatever happens she will have to be caught.
Outbidder had finished fourth and third in her two outings at this level to date, and while she is not expected to win, she will make her presence felt throughout.
