Hibbert returns to action at JBL Jump Fest in Slovakia
Double World Under-20 record holder Jaydon Hibbert is set to return to competition on Wednesday when he competes in the men’s triple jump at the JBL Jump Fest in Košice, Slovakia.
Hibbert will face fellow Jamaican, world leader Jordan Scott, in the men’s triple jump, while World Athletics Indoor finalist Nia Robinson and Ackelia Smith are set to contest the women’s long jump at the event that is being held outside of a stadium, on a specially designed jump pit in the streets of the city.
Hibbert, one of four Jamaican athletes whose applications to transfer national allegiance to Turkiye were rejected by World Athletics, has not competed since finishing fourth in the men’s triple jump at the Olympic Games in Paris.
The then 19-year-old had fouled his fourth and fifth efforts and passed on his final jump, despite being only three centimetres off a medal position with an injury.
Scott, the silver medallist at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March, is coming off a world-leading and personal-best 17.66m at a meet in Puerto Rico.
Cuba’s Lazaro Martinez, who is sixth in the world with 17.14m, American Russell Robinson and another Cuban, Cristian Napoles, are also scheduled to take part.
Smith was second in the women’s long jump at a meet in Germany on Sunday with a season’s best 6.81m while Robinson will be competing outdoors for the first time this season.
