Dancehall artiste Edley Shine is hoping that his newest offering, Billi,will resonate with a large audience.

“My expectations for Billi is to have a song with an updated sound that still appeals to my core fan base. The term Billi can be interpreted in different ways depending on where you from. But, for me, it just means I’m limitless when it comes to resources [and] creativity in music. I’ve been making music since the 90s, so music is a lifelong passion. I hope this songs adds to the legacy in a positive way,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Produced by Roe Summerz, the track was released on April 21.

The bass-heavy deejay is currently globetrotting on his ‘Classic Meets Current Tour’. So far, he has had sold-out shows in Colombia, Dominican Republic, and Ecuador.

Though born in Washington, DC, the artiste’s parents are both from Kingston. He was inspired to pursue music by his father, who was a music lover, and now believes he has the chops that make him outstanding.

“I have a distinct sound that makes me different. I’m a ‘Yankee’ kid that can DJ like a Jamaican, so my sound is distinct. My past works have been studied by great artistes who know what I brought to the table. I’m glad what I did in the past is still respected in certain sections of the dancehall, reggae, and the hop hop history book. I get called legend and pioneer a lot for the sound we made popular. The history speaks for itself,” Edley Shine added.

Meanwhile, the entertainer said he is open-minded about collaborating with his counterparts, as long as they satisfy his standards.

“I will collaborate with any artiste who will collaborate with me. My only criteria is people who are about the craft of music not the hustle. It’s difficult ’cause I’m not moving around in the space; I’m more heard than seen by design. But, if there’s an artiste I link and they have that mutual respect, we can collaborate. It’s not something I’m running down,” he said.
