GenXs looks ahead
The curtains were officially drawn on the Carnival in Jamaica season for 2023, but already GenXs is looking ahead. This sentiment was confirmed by GenXS Co-director Kino Johnson.
“GenXs consistently wants to get better in everything to make our customers and stakeholders happy. Our passionate, creative team plans to help elevate Carnival In Jamaica even more. We really do listen to feedback and note all. Anything bad will be made good, and the good enhanced to be better,” Johnson told the Jamaica Observer.
“GenXS also eyes more ways to help boost the nation’s economics with Carnival in Jamaica and the Jamaica Tourist Board in terms of jobs and income creation, increased tourism activity, and improving local infrastructure and growth,” he added.
The Miami-based band took to the streets of the Corporate Area last Sunday to indulge in the annual road march celebrations.
According to the co-director, most revellers had a seamless experience from start to finish, thanks to their meticulous planning.
“The GenXS directors and committee live for the ‘GenXperience’ to truly make you happy and have fun with the deepest sincere sentiments of Carnival; that is, togetherness. We pay attention to details with our costumes, entertainment and customer processes. For example, mass production of our costumes took weeks of planning to match the prototypes. Our DJs represented of 25 international cities that play Mas. The GenXS Band house averaged less than 30 minute costume collection for many sections, and the costumes actually match the prototypes from our launch. We embrace feedback, especially from those who jump with us. If it’s a feeling or idea from our GenXsers, we take time to apply any progressive upgrades,” Johnson explained.
GenXs launched in Jamaica in 2022 at which time the costumes for Carnival 2023 were revealed.
Johnson further boasted a line-up of celebrity revellers that joined them on the road.
“We entertained our Caribbean Carnival seekers at home in Kingston, plus internationals from over 19 countries. GenXsers were seen chipping and partying with Chriss Choreo, Dr Bri, Asafa and Alyshia Powell, Jodi, TC, Tanaania, UWI [The University of the West Indies] Beauty Queens, and launch host RushCam with his Carnival bestie Achsa Henry from Trinidad & Tobago and other Caribbean Carnivalists like CarnivalBae,” he said.
“Our friends at Ebony magazine, including Winnie Harlow and Omarion, were one of many groups representing North America who engaged in fanfare and photo opps that made the memory a little sweeter. Several South and Central America Consuls had delegates on show, plus sweet vibes from our African, Asian and European revellers.”
