Principals confirm payment of April salaries – Education Ministry
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Ministry of Education and Youth (MoEY) is advising that principals from across its seven regions have reported receiving their subventions and April 2023 salaries.
According to Education Minister, Fayval Williams, checks were conducted by the regional offices with principals and the reports indicated funds had been received. In addition, all other teachers paid directly by the MoEY have also been paid.
After four days of protests in March, the island’s teachers voted to accept the Government’s wage offer.
It was reported that 803 delegates of the 25-thousand strong Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) voted, with 629 voting to accept the offer and 147 voting to reject it. There was one abstention.

Williams expressed appreciation to the principals for working with their bursars to ensure the timely release of funds.
