Arnett secures top-two spot in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Arnett Gardens secured a top-two position and a place in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Premier League after beating defending champions Harbour View 3-0 in their return round game played at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on Monday.
Arnett Gardens’ win took them to 52 points and they can only be passed by Cavalier FC on goal difference.
Cavalier FC also put themselves in a position to finish in the top two on the points tables after outscoring Molynes United 4-2 in the first game of the doubleheader.
Marlon Allen in the 18th minute and Shai Smith in the 29th minute fired Arnett Gardens into an early 2-0 lead, thanks in part to sloppy defending by Harbour View.
Romeo Guthrie added the final goal in stoppage time as Arnett Gardens beat Harbour View for the second time this season after a first-round 1-0 victory.
In the first game, Adrian Reid scored two second-half goals for the Cavalier FC, both from the penalty spot after they led 2-0 at halftime with goals from Brian Elshot in the 33rd minute and Collin Anderson in the 37th minute.
Jason Wright scored the first of his brace in the 53rd minute to cut the deficit to one goal, but Reid scored in the 62nd and 80th minutes to take the score to 4-1.
Wright converted a penalty in the 88th minute to make the score 4-2.
