D’Angel says Pick The Man
Dancehall artiste D’Angel has released a controversial track titled Pick The Man, which she says has reached the intended audience.
“The feedback has been amazing. I was even invited at The University of the West Indies, [Mona], to speak on the topic. Also, since the release of the video, everyone is catching on to the definition of the song and why it is sparking nationwide interest,” she told the Jamaica Observer‘s Splash.
Pick The Man, produced by KraiGGi BaDArt for BaDArT Muzic, was officially released in April.
The track has some sexual innuendo that offers an unorthodox view on threesomes.
“What inspired me to do this track is to create awareness on the threesome topic and the double standard of it; in that men would want you to subdue to the idea but when you flip the script the other way around they say it’s not fair. So Pick The Man explains my personal view on the matter,” she said.
The official music video co-stars fellow dancehall artiste Razor B.
So far, it has racked up over 41,000 views on YouTube.
D’Angel started out as a model with the popular Miguel Models in the 1990s. She later auditioned for a group called LOY, which was managed by Horatio Hamilton, music and events promoter for the Sashi series.
Among her hits are Blaze, produced by Arif Cooper; the autobiographical Stronger; No Worries, featuring Spice; Can’t Love You Good, featuring G Whizz; One Man with Beenie Man; Babyfather, featuring Vybz Kartel; and Love Is, featuring Cocoa Tea.
The entertainer noted that her long-standing career in music is owed to her ability to adapt with the changing times.
“What I would say definitely contributes to my longevity in music is my ability to reinvent myself and also creating music that appeals to every generation. And, if I may say so myself, my exciting eye-capturing performances on any platform,” she said.
In the meantime, the singer said she remains busy for the rest of the year.
“Well, my long-awaited EP is pending. I also have another new song out, Trash, which is definitely another female anthem that’s already getting great feedback. This year is looking good for me as I’m already set to continue my USA tour and also honouring a few shows in Jamaica. I’m loving what I do and only the best is yet to come,” she told the Observer.
