Barracks Road first team in Uplift U-13 quarter-finals
TUCKER, St James — Barracks Road Primary became the first school to book a place in the quarter-finals of the St James Football Association Victoria Mutual Foundation Uplift Under-13 competition after blanking Adelphi 2-0 in their Zone C game at Wespow Park on Thursday.
Barracks Road Primary extended their perfect win streak to four games and need only a draw in their remaining game to secure top spot in the group while Green Pond Primary took over second place with a 1-0 win over Chetwood.
Both goals for Barracks Road came in the second half from Thisiyd Decarish in the 43rd minute and Rasheen Trought in the 60th.
Junior Wright scored his third goal of the season for Green Pond in their win over Chetwood and to move into second place on nine points, three behind Barracks Road with Albion and Chetwood tied on six points for third place.
Albion Primary have the edge for third place on goal-difference after beating Maldon Primary 2-0 with goals from Howardo Hunter a minute into the start of the second half in the 36th minute and Jessie West in the 52nd minute.
Defending champions Granville Primary must win today if they are to harbour any hopes of advancing from Zone A.
Granville are fourth in the group on four points and will face Dumfries Primary who are also still in contention for a quarter-final spot.
Zone A leaders Howard Cooke Primary could take the first quarter-final spot today if they can beat second-placed Anchovy Primary, while MoBay Prep will be looking for back-to-back wins when they face last-placed Somerton Primary.
