Going red with Crimson in Yvonne Mattis Cup

The three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance call for the Yvonne Mattis Cup is the main attraction at Caymanas Park tomorrow (Saturday, May 13). A field of 10 runners face the starter going nine furlongs (1,800m) for a total purse of $1.14 million.

Below is an analysis of each runner.

1. SECRET TRAVELLER: (9 b c by Traditional – Sea Traveller) – Off the board in his last two starts at this level. Little or no improvement is expected from Secret Traveller in this one.

2. D HEAD CORNERSTONE: (4 b c by Bern Identity – Soul Of The Heart) – Has no form to be recommended for a winning run. Note, D Head Cornerstone races with the tongue tie on.

3. GAMBLER: (6 b m by Freedom For Jante – Kennisha) – Based on current form, Gambler has no chance of winning.

4. DADDY JONES: (5 gr h by American Dance – Mete-Orite) – Won by a huge margin when last at the races. Daddy Jones won a high claiming event over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) by 16 lengths in a time of 1:33.1. Though the performance was an encouraging one, Daddy Jones is up in class and is going to find repeating a difficult task.

5. BERN NOTICE: (5 ch h by Bern Identity – Blufield) – Another runner who is coming off an impressive win in high claiming. Bern Notice won a $750,000 claiming call at 7 furlongs (1,400m) by 11 lengths in a time of 1:28.3. Bern Notice will also find winning here a tall order, but could run surprisingly well.

6. CRIMSON: (7 b g by Nuclear Wayne – Sarah Barracuda) – Not doing that badly in his races of late. Crimson finished off the board just once in his last four starts and looks a much better animal than these. Crimson has been presented with his best opportunity of entering the winners’ enclosure for a while now. Note, Crimson races with the visor on.

7. BIG BIG DADDY: (6 dkb h by Natural Selection – Just A Flutter) – Consistent sort who always gives of his best each time at the races. Big Big Daddy, who was a disappointing seventh last time, is expected to put in a much-improved effort.

8. STOMP THE RHYTHM: (4 b g by Savoy Stomp – River Rhythm) – Did extremely well to reach this level. Stomp The Rhythm, while possessing some ability, cannot win this contest.

9. MARQUESAS: (8 b h by Coded Warning – Islamorada) – Former St Leger winner who has not won a race in many moons. He has nothing to fear and should put in a decent run.

10. MINIATURE MAN: (5 ch g by Northern Giant – Runaway Gal) – Has been struggling to find form of late. Miniature Man talented enough to have a compelling effort.
