Mama’s Love for Rad Dixon
When Rad Dixon’s mother realised her son was serious about a career in music, she was not enthused. But as his passion for it intensified, she relented and ended up producing the singer’s first song.
That song, Hard Task, was released in 2000 when the artiste was known as R Rated.
Since then, he has released a number of songs, an EP, and in January his début album Hard Times.
According to the South Florida-based Rad Dixon, he owes a lot to his mother, Blossom Robinson, a devout Christian who stood by him despite differences about his career path.
“Di love dat she have for me helped me a lot in those early days. She never know di business like dat, but she put up di funds to help her child,” he said. “Dat’s something I will never forget.”
Mama’s Love is one of the songs from Hard Times, which is produced by James Smith for Tasjay Productions. It is a “special tribute” to mothers, many of whom raised their children as single parents.
Dixon, who is Rastafarian, is the youngest of three children raised by his mother in Dunsinane, a district in Manchester. Although his mother did not share his religious beliefs, she overlooked those differences to help him realise his dreams.
“She never 100 per cent with it, but she know seh is righteousness di song a deal with,” he said.
Rad Dixon plans to share Mother’s Day with his beloved Blossom Robinson, who also lives in South Florida.
