Race on for quarter-final spots in Uplift Under-13 football
TUCKER, St James — The quarter-final qualifiers from Zone D of the St James Football Association/Victoria Mutual Foundation Uplift Under-13 Competition could be decided today following the playing of a triple-header at WesPow Park, starting at 10:00 am.
The race for places in Zone D is wide open, with no fewer than four teams still in contention for the two quarter-final spots.
Leaders John Rollins Success Primary, who have won all three games so far, need only a win over Buckingham to book their place alongside early qualifiers Barracks Road Primary.
Catherine Hall, who will hope to rebound from their loss to John Rollins Success last week, can also book their place in the next round but would have to beat Farm Primary and hope St James Prep fail to beat Pinnacle Academy.
Meanwhile, Howard Cooke Primary took a big step towards qualifying for the next round after beating Anchovy Primary 2-0 in their Zone A game on Monday.
The win took Howard Cooke Primary to 10 points, four more than Anchovy Primary and Montego Bay Prep who have played a game fewer.
Waiden Mitchell in the 15th minute and Karson Cunningham in the 44th minute scored for Howard Cooke who are a point away from clinching their place in the next round.
In another game on Monday, Lionel Anderson’s first-half goal carried Flankers Primary to a 1-0 win over Irwin Primary in a Zone B game, allowing them to join Corinaldi Avenue Primary on nine points at the top of the points table.
In one result from Friday, Barrett Town Primary scored their first win of the season when they beat Lethe Primary 3-1 in a Zone B game.
