Leaders Racing, Meadforest seek to stay ahead of pack

Leaders Racing, Meadforest seek to stay ahead of pack

LEADERS Racing United and Meadforest FC will seek to maintain their advantages when the Jamaica Football Federation Tier II competition continues today with seven games.

Racing United, who lead with 13 points from five games, will host Brown’s Town FC at Prison Oval in a repeat of the Tier II play-off finals from March, while Meadforest FC, still smarting from their first loss of the season, host Reno FC at Constant Spring.

Racing United are on a scoring spree with 33 goals in their last three games, and face Brown’s Town who are coming off a 2-0 win over last-place Hopewell United and are in eighth place.

Raheem Sterling is in a rich vein of scoring with 18 goals so far — more than any of the other 13 teams in the competition — and will be hungry for more against Brown’s Town who have scored just six goals so far.

Meadforest FC appeared to be cruising until they were surprised by Tru-Juice on Saturday, and they will hope to rebound immediately against a Reno FC team that lost their last two games.

Reno FC had climbed up the points tables, only to slip back to ninth place, and will be desperate to get at least a point today — but that could be wishful thinking against Meadforest FC who will be home where they have won twice so far.

Tru-Juice will be high on confidence after their win over Meadforest FC and will seek to make amends for a 1-0 loss to Albion Mountain last year.

Two points separate the teams as Tru-Juice are third on 11 points, with Albion Mountain two points and three places behind them and unbeaten all season, so far.

Lime Hall Academy have so far defied predictions to be in fourth place and will play away to an inconsistent Falmouth United who had beaten them 2-0 when they met last season.

Falmouth United dropped two points on Saturday when they were held by Downs YC who had conceded 19 goals before to Racing United and will be hoping to make amends at home.

Antonio Roberts has scored three goals to lead Falmouth United while Kymani Silvera has the same amount for Albion Mountain, and both could lead their team’s victory hunt today.

Treasure Beach could move into the top four with a win over Wadada United at Irwin High and will go after back-to-back wins since losing to Falmouth United.

After scoring their first win Wadada United were brought back to earth on Saturday when they were hammered 9-0 by Racing United, and they will have their hands full if they are to avoid another loss to Treasure Beach after they went down 1-0 last year.
