Harbour View, Mt Pleasant move into JPL semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Defending champions Harbour View and Mt Pleasant FA booked their places in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Premier League after completing contrasting quarterfinal play-off wins on Monday at Sabina Park.
Harbour View held off Humble Lion 4-3 on aggregate despite losing 3-2 on Monday, while Leonardo Rankin scored two second half goals to lead Mt Pleasant FA to a 3-0 win over Dunbeholden FC and 4-1 on aggregate.
Harbour View will face long-time rivals Cavalier FC in one semi-final, while Mt Pleasant FA will take on Arnett Gardens in the other.
On Monday, Harbour View, who led 2-0 from the first leg, extended their advantage when Cristojaye Daley scored in the 10th minute but that sparked a comeback from Humble Lion to tie up the aggregate scores at 3-3.
Andre Clennon pulled one back for Humble Lion in time added at the end of the first half before Roshane Sharpe added a second in the 57th minute, three minutes after he was brought on as a substitute before Javon Smith pulled the Clarendon club level in the 66th minute.
A 77th minute header from Ryan Wellington however restored Harbour View’s lead and they were able to hold on for the slim victory.
Rankin, the former Manning’s School player, is having his best run ever in the Premier League as after scoring his first goal at this level to earn Mt Pleasant FA a draw in the first leg, scored in the 48th and 60th minutes while Atapharoy Bygrave added a third in the 86th minute.
