A floral tribute to mark the 93rd anniversary of the birth of former Prime Minister Edward Seaga is scheduled for National Heroes Park in Kingston on Sunday, May 28.

The event, which commences at 3.30 pm, will attract the presence of a wide array of persons representing various bodies attached to the party, relatives of the late Prime Minister, and leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), as well as the current member of Pprliament (MP) for the Kingston Western constituency, Desmond McKenzie.

Seaga’s cousin, businessman Metry Seaga, the current resident of The Private Sector Organisation Of Jamaica (PSOJ), and JLP stalwart Prudence Kidd-Deans will represent the late prime minister and his wife, respectively.

Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Councillor Jermaine Hyatt will represent the mayor of Kingston, Senator/Councillor Delroy Williams. Ann-Marie Spence-Heron, president of the Tivoli Gardens Football Club, chairman of the Edward Seaga Research Institute, Christopher Bovell and the president of the JLP’s Generation 2000 youth organization, Shayne Kerr, will also take part in the proceedings.

The main tribute will be laid by McKenzie, the minister of Local Government and Community Development, followed by a moment of silence and the playing of the Last Post and Reveille by the Combat Support Battalion, the Jamaica Regiment and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).

Seaga was the fifth Prime Minister of Jamaica, serving from 1980 to 1989, and the leader of the JLP from 1974 to 2005. He served as leader of the Opposition from 1974 to 1980, and again from 1989 until January 2005.

He was born on May 28, 1930, and died on May 28, 2019. His first marriage was to a Jamaican beauty queen, Mitsy Seaga ( 1965–1995), and later to Carla Vendryes ( 1996–2019).

He was buried on June 23, 2019, at National Heroes Park.

Master of Ceremonies will be Oliver Watt,dDirector of Public Relations and Corporate Communications at the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport.
