KINGSTON, Jamaica — Cavalier footballers returned to their changing room during the Lynk Cup final at the half-time break to find it ransacked and their possessions, including phones, money and car keys stolen.

The match, held at Sabina Park in Kingston on Friday night, eventually saw Cavaliers being beaten 2-0 by Portmore United.

“The guys were in no frame of mind to go back on the pitch..but in the spirit of the game, with so much supporters, you want to finis the match. So we had to encourage the guys to go back out there,” assistant coach David Lalor told OBSERVER ONLINE.

Police were seen at the dressing room taking statements and seemingly collecting evidence.

The changing room was reportedly being manned by a security guard, however, Lalor said the thieves were still able to gain access to the room.

“There was a security but at the end of the day, the security can’t tell when and how it was moved…at one point she said she saw a guy coming from around there and she never even check him out good and tell him say him mustn’t come round there again,” Lalor lamented.

The extent of the losses is still being assessed.
