TUCKER, St James – Kavontea Gooden of Cornwall AIA was a double winner at the presentation ceremony of the recent St James Football Association Sandals Resorts International Under-15 and Under-17 competitions.

Gooden, who scored a double in his team’s 3-0 win over Green Pond High in the final played at Wespow Park, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the top scorer with seven goals.

His teammate Najani Blair was named the top goalkeeper while Green Pond was named the most disciplined team.

Raheem Lee of Athletes in Action, who also scored two goals in the Under-17 final, was named MVP for that competition after they came back from two goals down to earn a draw and went on to win on penalty kicks.

St James High’s Jaleel Barnett was the leading goal scorer with 11 goals while Irwin Academy’s Dontrell Kelvin was the top goal-keeper.

Montego Bay Boys’ and Girls’ Club was named the most disciplined.

Cornwall AIA and Athletes in Action (AIA) won the titles after going unbeaten over their respective seasons, Cornwall AIA blanked Green Pond High 3-0 in the Under-15 final while AIA came from two goals down against Irwin Academy at half-time in the Under-17 final, to earn a 2-2 draw and won 4-2 on penalty kicks.

It was the second time AIA had to come from behind and win on penalties. They had drawn 1-1 with St James High in the semi-finals as well.

St James High finished third in both competitions, beating AIA 4-0 in the Under 15 with Jevaughn Freeburn scoring a double, in the 21st and 49th minutes, Rory Smith also scored in the 28th minute and Ronardo Finderson in the 59th minute.

In the Under-17 consolation game, Jaleel Barnett scored a double as St James High came from a goal down to edge Green Pond 2-1.
