Mills calls on fans to support Grand Prix

GLEN Mills, chief organiser of the Racers Grand Prix, says all is in place for a successful staging of the event which will be held inside the National Stadium.

In the same breath, the legendary track and field coach has called on Jamaicans to come out in their numbers to support the event.

“I would like all the track and field fans to come out and support our athletes because they need your support,” Mills said.

“We need to show them that we love and appreciate what they have been doing for the sport of track and field so just come out in your numbers inside the National Stadium on Saturday,” he said.

The event, which will feature some of the world’s top track and field athletes, is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.

Jamaica’s World 200m champion Shericka Jackson, along with the reigning World 200m champion American Noah Lyles and former World 100m champion Christian Coleman, are among the stars who will be on show today.

There is also a cadre of budding stars who are down to grace the track today, including World Under-20 100m champion Tina Clayton, along with Kerrica Hill, Antonio Watson and Michael Stephens.

Mills said on Friday he is confident that the meet will be successful this year.

“All systems are now in place for the meet because we have put a lot of work into it and so we are ready to go Saturday,” said Mills.

“All the athletes are here and they are really excited about the meet, and I know that they are ready to put on an excellent showing for the fans,” he added.

The meet will use the Roster Athletic system for real time results, which has been used at various meets since the pandemic.

It will the first time in three years that the Racers Grand Prix will take place after a COVID-19 pandemic-imposed break.
