Dancehall artiste Aidonia (@aidonia4thgenna) was onstage live in Brooklyn, New York, under the K Bridge, Sunday night, for Sandz.

His first time giving a full performance in the US in five years, and the first leg of the artiste’s Frsh Drop Tour, the Fourth Genna/JOP Boss had the venue sold out a week before the event.

The 10,000-strong audience erupted in cheers and support as the artiste took to the stage delivering from his slew of hits.

Sandz Music Festival’s Andrew Ellis said: “Aidonia was phenomenal and the show was a huge success. We are happy Sandz was the platform that returned Aidonia to the US stage – it’s our responsibility to push the culture out to the market.”

Sandz is a touring event with its roots in Jamaica.

The next show is scheduled for July 15 in Canada, followed by a return to its home base on Emancipation Day, August 1.

“The vibe is right in the parties… that’s why we roll out,” said one male attendee.

Reggae and dancehall lovers sang along in the crowd, hit by bit, both locals and members of the Caribbean Diaspora.

Such live events have been heavily supported in the post-pandemic period as partygoers seek more opportunities to enjoy the music.

The upcoming Barclay’s event on June 16, 2023 has a line-up featuring Shabba, Barrington Levy, Cobra, Yellow Man, Patra, among other top-tier and up-and-coming reggae and dancehall artistes.

Aidonia (Sheldon Lawrence) faced personal tragedy late last year when he and his wife, Kimberly Megan, lost their 9-year-old son, King Khalif Lawrence, after a battle with cancer.

Several members of the music fraternity offered support and tributes on social media to the bereaved family in the wake of the death. Aidonia and family had asked for a period of privacy.

The Frsh Drop Tour has dates in Hartford, Connecticut (July 23); Atlanta, Georgia (August 12); Balitmore (August 13); and Miami, Florida (September 16).
