With shows scheduled for the Caribbean, United States, and Costa Rica during the summer, Warrior King is looking forward to performing overseas again after a prolonged absence due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

He has six new songs on the market, which he says is important for any artiste hitting the road.

“An artiste, like myself, through mi have a strong catalogue, mi can always go out pon di road. But having a new song, a hit song, bring out more people. It mek things more exciting an’ easier for the booking agent,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Ragga (produced by Etana’s Free Mind company), I-Niversal Light and Cherish are some of the new songs Warrior King has out.

Cherish is produced by Colin “Bulby” York for his Time & Color compilation album which features songs by several acts including Beres Hammond and Maxi Priest.

Virtuous Woman, Never Go Where Pagans Go, and Can’t Get Me Down are some of the songs that announced Clarendon-born Warrior King (real name Mark Dyer) in the early 2000s.They have earned him a following on the US West Coast and Europe, which keeps him in-demand in those regions as well as the Caribbean and Latin America.

On Sunday, Father’s Day, he performs alongside Queen Ifrica on the Reggae For Breakfast show at Hope Gardens in St Andrew. The father of five children said he remembers a time when Father’s Day ran a distant second to Mother’s Day.

“It wasn’t celebrated as much, but in the past few years fathers getting more respect ’cause dem living up to their name,” said the roots singer.

He noted that he shares “a very good relationship” with his father, Tass Dyer, and every day he makes every effort to be the best parent possible.

“No one perfect, but wi try wi best. Being a father, a parent, means responsibility. And wi try our best to have a good relationship with wi children,” said Warrior King.
