St Kitts-based, Jamaican-born dancehall artiste Byron Messia continues his surge on the Billboard and UK charts.
On the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, his latest album No Love, which debuted at #8, fell to #9 last week. On this week’s chart, No Love rebounds to #8.
Talibans, the hit single from No Love makes moves on the UK charts, powering from #37 to #34 on the UK Singles chart. Over on the UK Official Hip Hop and R&B Singles chart, Talibans steps up from #13 to #11.
Back to this week’s Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers log 179 non-consecutive weeks in the #1 spot with Legend.
Shaggy remains at #2 with Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection, while Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection is #3.
Stick Figure has back-to-back entries with Wisdom and World on Fire at #4 and #5, respectively.
Greatest Hits by UB40 inches up to #6, while Stick Figure’s long-running Set in Stone bullets to #7.
California reggae band Rebelution has #9 and #10 positions with Count Me In and Live at Red Rocks.
American R&B singer Janelle Monae’s fourth studio album The Age of Pleasure, which contains songs featuring Jamaicans Grace Jones and Sister Nancy, has debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
The Age of Pleasure, which also features samples of songs by veteran Jamaicans Barrington Levy, Derrick Harriott and Mad Cobra, also debuted on multiple charts in Europe.
Patra’s 1993 song Whining Skill is sampled in the track Water Slide, so too is Sister Nancy’s Bam Bam.
Grace Jones is featured on the track Ooh La La, while Sister Nancy collaborates on the track The French 75.
The track Champagne Shit and Black Sugar Beach both sample the intro to Barrington Levy’s 1984 hit Murderer. Champagne Shit débuts at #22 on the Billboard R&B Songs chart, where Lipstick Lover (which features a sample from Mad Cobra’s Flex) re-enters at #18. The track improves on R&B Adult Airplay chart zooming from #13 to #9. On R&B/Hip Hop Airplay, Lipstick Lover darts from #35 to #28.
And, finally, Derrick Harriott’s 1967 song The Loser is sampled in Only Have Eyes 42.
The Age of Pleasure débuts at #2 on the UK R&B Albums chart, #49 on the Official UK Albums chart, #17 in Scotland, #38 in New Zealand, #48 in Germany, #61 in Belgium, and #9 in Australia.
Over on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 chart, Link Up by Metro Boomin, Don Toliver and WizKid featuring Jamaicans Toian and BEAM, backtracks from 69 to 90.
Moving now to the South Florida Reggae chart, I’m Not That Guy by Ed Robinson remains at #1. New at #23 is Viral by Alborosie.
Romain Virgo’s Driver steered its way into the #1 spot on the New York Reggae chart.
And, in Canada, on the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart, Once More by Golden Chyle (born in Canada to a mother who is from Brown’s Town, St Ann) takes over the #1 spot.
Dancehall artiste Razor B enters the chart at #7 with Commentary.
